Toy Story joins the 3D craze
Toy Story joins the 3D craze
The cinema is always a popular place in the summer as children and their parents head there to watch the latest films on the big screen. The 3D craze has hit our cinemas and now you can watch the latest films in stunning definition and in three dimensions. Toy Story 3 is the latest movie to be shown in 3D and ensures that the animated franchise continues to be at the forefront of film technology in the 21st century.
When Toy Story hit our screens in 1995 it was like nothing we’d seen before. It was the first feature length movie to be created entirely using CGI, which made it one of the most stunning animated productions of its time. The technology used really helped the characters to come to life and by pushing the boundaries of film production it has helped the Toy Story DVD to stand the test of time.
Disney Pixar has shown that it’s not content in standing still in terms of movie production and has continued to push the boundaries in any way it can. With the latest film in the Toy Story franchise set to be released in the summer of 2010, the animation company has come a long way in the decade and a half since the original family favourite was released. Much of this is due to the hard work put in by John Lasseter and the team of animators at Disney Pixar who have helped to ensure that the three films not only tell a great story, but are also aesthetically stunning.
Lasseter himself didn’t take on the role of director for Toy Story 3 - that was given to Lee Unkrich - but the American animator still had a large part to play. Lasseter has worked in animation for close to 30 years and has built up an impressive collection of work in that time. As well as his invaluable input into the trio of Toy Story films, Lasseter has also worked on recent box office smash hits including Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Wall-E.
All films require hours and hours of hard work to produce, but animated movies in particular require plenty of time to put together. The concentration and dedication needed to create each and every scene in an animated production has to be commended and the majority of the audience really appreciate the work that is put in. Up to a dozen hours can be spent on just a single frame and the fact that the original Toy Story contained over 100,000 frames of animation gives you an idea of the staggering amount of time it took to produce.
Toy Story 3 will have been worked on with the same commitment, which will go a long way to ensuring that it’s just as eye catching as the previous two films in the franchise. The addition of 3D to the mix will immerse the audience in the action more than ever as the characters of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of Andy’s toys come to life for the third time.
