Pressing Matters at the Story Museum Leave the computer behind! The Bodleian Hand Printing Workshop at The Story Museum is launching a spring programme of hands-on sessions for both families and adults, starting in February. Visitors will learn about the history and techniques of letterpress printing, hand set a short text and print it as a keepsake. They'll be able to use original printing presses, metal type and techniques that have a direct link back to Gutenberg (the father of modern book printing) and the early days of European printing in the fifteenth century. |

The panel of distinguished adjudicators will announce the winner the same evening. First prize is £1,000 and an invitation to play a concerto with Oxford Philomusica in their Sheldonian Series. 52 Things to Do Far From the Madding Beaches This book grew out of a desire to celebrate our local area. The pages comprise a mixture of places that have inspired or intrigued individuals living in the Vale. The beautiful images are a simple balance of amateur photography and artistic interpretation. They all capture a particular time or place important to the contributor. Our initial contributions came through a local competition, with over 300 entries submitted. The winning entries are identified in the opening pages. Our aspiration has been, from the outset, to create a publication that one would keep and revisit from time to time. Without pretensions, we want to encourage you to get out and about, to do one thing each week and to explore what the Vale has to offer. This book is not just about the formal attractions. It includes recommendations for spontaneous activity. Go for a walk, find a particular view, maybe take a paintbrush and capture the moment in a similar way to some of our artists.
